A tough, disciplined player, Brodie Holland reinvented himself from an opportunistic forward into an effective midfielder.

Drafted as a 17-year-old in the 1997 National Draft by Fremantle, Brodie didn’t waste any time to impress the Dockers’ hierarchy, showing maturity rarely found at such a young age. After serving his apprenticeship at Fremantle, Brodie was traded to Collingwood at the end of 2000, the Magpies desperate to inject some quality into their midfield.

Initially, Brodie made an impression at Collingwood playing mainly as a dangerous goal sneak. However, opportunities became limited in the powerful Collingwood line up and Brodie changed his game to become a defensive midfielder.

The change reaped its reward as Holland played an important part in helping Collingwood reach its second consecutive Grand Final. Holland gave the Magpies excellent service in 2004 and registered his 100th AFL game.

In 2005, Holland finished second in the Copeland Trophy and stamped himself as a key piece of Collingwood’s revival.

By the conclusion of his career, Holland surpassed the 150 AFL game mark.

Whilst making his mark on-field, Holland was a regular in media circles. He made several television appearances, including a series of Dancing with The Stars and as a panelist on The Footy Show and spent time on breakfast radio with Fox FM as the AFL expert on the Matt and Jo Show, who capitalized on his appeal to a wide selection of fans.

Today, Holland has a growing personal training business and coaches Maribyrnong Park in the Essendon District Football League. He married long time partner Sarita Stella in late 2008.
